Janice Ann Newman, also known as “Sug” to close family and friends, age 76, of Lebanon TN, went to be with our Lord and Savior, on March 21, 2025 after an extended illness, with her family by her side. She was saved at a young age and was a life-long member of Calvue Baptist Church in Morristown TN.
She was born at home on their family farm to the late James P. and Nora “Dollie” Davidson of Thorn Hill TN, on March 6, 1949. Janice graduated from Hancock County High School in 1967. She was a devoted and loving mother to her children Scottie and Sandy. Her son, Benjamin Scott “Scottie” Brewer was born on August 4, 1968. She cared for him lovingly until his passing at age 6 ½ due to an illness. Her daughter Sandy Renae Brewer-Castellaw was born on November 12, 1969. She was her sunshine, the light of her life. She frequently sang “You are My Sunshine” to her. Sandy was her caregiver this past year.
Janice spent her life as a devoted wife, mother, Nanny, and Great Nanny. She was extremely close to her special granddaughter Tara Brooke Brewer of Lebanon TN and to her grandson Bradley Logan Roach of Locust Grove GA. They shared a special bond throughout her life.
She married her sweetheart Charles R. Newman on June 28, 1985. They spent 40 wonderful years of their life together. They shared a special love and friendship together. You never would see one of them without the other. They lived together in Jefferson City TN, Talbott TN, Cookeville TN and Morristown TN, over their life together. In 2022, they relocated to Lebanon TN to live beside their granddaughter Tara Brewer, her children Zavery and Karsyn, and near her daughter Sandy and Chris Castellaw. She was so happy to live down the street from Tara, Karsyn and Zavery. They enjoyed golf cart rides around the neighborhood together and had lots of fun. She shared a special friendship with her son-in-law Chris. She had a special bond with her sister Susie and brother Jay who visited her frequently, a special niece Melissa Rhea-Holt and a special aunt Lucille “Lou” Murphy.
She loved working puzzles with family, sewing, cooking up big meals, canning, and drawing and coloring with her grandchildren. She also loved playing cards but her favorite pastime was camping in Pigeon Forge with her siblings.
She is preceded in death by her father James P. Davidson, mother Nora “Dollie” Davidson, son Benjamin Scott “Scottie” Brewer, grandson-in-law Jeremy Holmes, and infant grandchildren Carter Scott Roach and Dolly Patricia Ann Roach. She is survived by her husband: Charles R. Newman of Lebanon TN; daughter and son-in-law: Sandy and Chris Castellaw of Lebanon TN; step-children: Adam (Nikki) Newman of Jefferson County TN, Leanne Carpenter of North Carolina, Mike Newman of California; grandchildren: Tara Brewer of Lebanon TN, Logan (Peyton) Roach of Locust Grove GA; step-grandchildren: Kayla, Kimberly, Kendra, and Issac Carpenter of North Carolina; great-grandchildren: Zavery and Karsyn Brewer of Lebanon TN, Cash and June Roach of Locust Grove GA; step-great-grandchildren: Legend Sanders and Kaden Ross of North Carolina; siblings: Jay (Neecie) Davidson of Mooresburg TN, Jeanette “Sis” Brewer of Morristown TN, Odell (Jama) Davidson of Bean Station TN, Linda “Susie” Rhea (Bob) Williams of Morristown TN; sister-in-law: Mary (Steve) Drinnon of Talbot TN, and many beloved nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life and inurnment in Morristown TN for close friends and family to be scheduled at a later date.
