James Winston Larkin, III, lovingly known as “Jim”, was born on Wednesday, August 25th, 1971, in Portsmouth, Virginia to his loving parents James W. “Jimmy” and Judy Larkin, Jr., and passed away suddenly from a cardiac event at his home in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, on Friday, December 27th, 2024, at the age of 53.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by children, Miranda Larkin, Cassandra Larkin, Melody Larkin, and Morgan Larkin; granddaughter, Katya Larkin with one grandson on the way, James, who is to be named after him; brother, Jeff (Christi) Larkin; sister, Jennifer (Johnny) Davis; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Jim was a tireless worker and an avid volunteer for non-profit organizations. He had a special spot in his heart for all animals- cats, dogs, stray animals, and even the raccoon and possums in the yard. Jim’s love of animals didn’t stop there though. He volunteered at Pet Community Center- trapping and helping community cats. His goal was to open a sanctuary for feral cats so that they had a safe space, too.
In his spare time, he found immense joy in Wonder Woman collectibles, mostly comics and action figures. His political activism was very important to him, and he was constantly advocating for others- working to create real change. Jim always wanted to make sure every person around him was taken care of, even if he didn’t know you. A gentle soul who always wanted everyone he encountered to be happy and enjoy life. A beloved father, son, brother, fur parent, and friend, he was loved beyond measure.
The genuineness inside him was rare, pure, and kind. He gave his children great joy in life, instilling in them the values of kindness, love, and service, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be treasured.
The family will receive friends for a Celebration of Life Gathering at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet on Friday, January 3rd, 2024 from 04:00 p.m. – 07:00 p.m.
