James Harold Gaines, age 87 of Mount Juliet, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.
Jim was born on March 20, 1935 in Athens, Alabama to the late William David and Margaret Ruth (Hardiman) Gaines, a graduate of Beech Hill High School. Jim grew up in Pulaski, TN where he was married to his high school sweetheart, Billie Jo (Burton) Gaines, for 70 years.
Jim served as a cook in the Air Force for 4 years and retired from Methodist Publishing House and McQuiddy Printing after 44 years of service. He was a member of Gladeville Church of Christ. Jim enjoyed running and ran in several marathons over the years. He also loved gardening, his tractor, photography, fishing and spending time at home with his family.
In his retirement years, he was the Horseshoe, Rook and Pool champion at the Senior Citizen Center. Jim will always be remembered for being a constant for his family.
Survived by his loving wife, Billie Jo (Burton) Gaines, son Russell (Rusty) Joe Gaines and daughter-in-law Vicki (Sizemore) Gaines. Two grandchildren: Christy (Garrick) Odom and Grant (Laura) Gaines and 5 great-grandchildren: Gaines, Will, Ella Jo, Ava and James Michael, all from Mt Juliet, TN. Jim is survived by one brother; Charles Byron Gaines, Tulsa, OK and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, James (Tony) Gaines; and the following brothers and sisters: Jacqueline Callahan, Lula Mae Noah, John Broadus, William Dupree and Thelwood Gaines.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Brother Danny Sellars officiating at the Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens.
Honorary Pallbearers: Rusty Gaines, Grant Gaines, Garrick, Gaines, Will and Ella Jo Odom.
