TENNESSEE — Gary Wayne Tatum of Lebanon, Tennessee, passed away laying next to his wife in the presence of his family on Feb. 26, 2026 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Gary was born on Nov. 3, 1938, in Lebanon (Possum Town), Tennessee, to Clay Wesley Tatum and Elizabeth Hester Tatum. He was known as Wayne for most of his life, until joining the United States Air Force, where he was called by his first name, Gary. Gary graduated from Lebanon High School in 1956. He proudly served four years in the United States Air Force. During his time in service, he met the love of his life, A. Sue Tatum. They were united in marriage on Dec. 22, 1961. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. Following his military service, Gary began his career with United Airlines, where he worked faithfully until his retirement.

Gary is survived by his devoted wife, Sue Tatum; his three daughters, Mona Dill, Lia Tatum, and Gara Williams; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clay Wesley Tatum and Elizabeth Hester Tatum, and his older sister, Martha Clay. His final resting place will be at Nashville National Cemetery. Gary requested that financial contributions be made to The Church of Christ Disaster Relief Efforts.
