Dean Helton went Home to be with God on July 11th, 2026, at the tender age of 45. A beloved member of the Mt. Juliet community, Dean leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, hard work, and countless memories to be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. The Celebration of Life Service, conducted by Pastor Jacob Armstrong, will be held in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet on Saturday, August 8th, 2026, at 05:00 p.m. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, August 8th from 02:00 p.m. until time of service at 05:00 p.m.
James Dean Helton was the first son born unto the union of his loving parents, David and Sherry Helton on Thursday, January 29th, 1981, in Knoxville, Tennessee. In addition to his parents, Dean leaves behind his beloved daughters, Elin Elise Helton and Elle Ryan Helton; the mother of his children, Holly Helton; his aunts and uncles, Buddy (Anita) Helton, Mary Mays, Marty (Joseph) Irwin, Melanie Helton (Bob) Snow, and Tommy Buckner; his cherished nieces and nephews, Lily Helton, Campbell Helton, and Crew Helton, and their mother, Courtney Helton, and Rowe Helton, and his mother, Kendre Dolan; his companion and significant other, Lindsey Mingledorff; a host of cousins, extended family and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his younger brother who was his best friend, Josh Helton; his paternal grandparents, Olaf and Jeanne Helton and his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Mary Sue Buckner; and his aunts, Margie Helton and Kim Bullock.
Dean was a proud graduate of Mt. Juliet High School, Class of 1999. He continued his education at Middle Tennessee State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in 2005. A hard worker and intelligent businessman, Dean dedicated much of his professional life to serving as Regional Manager for H.E.S Facilities. In this role, he was known not only for his leadership and dedication, but for his ability to create and grow meaningful relationships with both coworkers and clients. Dean genuinely cared about people, and that quality was evident in everything he did. Those who knew Dean would describe him as witty, charming, funny, and kind. He had a natural ability to light up a room, and his warm demeanor had a way of drawing people in. Whether he was telling a story, sharing a laugh, or simply spending time with those around him, Dean had a presence that made people feel welcome and valued.
Dean had a lifelong love of sports. During his high school years, he played basketball and ran track, and he continued to follow sports passionately throughout his life. He was a lifelong Tennessee Vols fan and loved attending any of their sporting events. He also enjoyed playing golf whenever he had the opportunity. A collector at heart, if Dean loved something, he found a way to collect it- watches, coins, shoes, swords, and jerseys, just to name a few. Each collection was a reflection of his personality and his ability to find joy in the things he loved. Of all places Dean enjoyed, the beach was undoubtedly his happy place. Anywhere tropical and being surrounded by sunshine and water was exactly where he wanted to be.
Above all else, Dean was a family man. His family meant the world to him, and there was nothing more important to him than the people he loved. His daughters were his life, and he was the ultimate girl dad. He proudly supported them in everything they chose to pursue, always making sure they knew just how much he loved them. From dance competitions to the many moments in between, Dean was their biggest supporter and their greatest fan.
While his time here on Earth was far too short, the love he gave his family, the relationships he built, and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Dean’s greatest legacy will not be measured by the things he collected or the accomplishments he achieved, but by the people he loved, the lives he touched, and the lasting impression he left on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
