Bates Conway Stockton, 90, LaGuardo community, known affectionately as “Pap” to his family, friends, and to just about everyone who had the joy of meeting him, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. He leaves behind a life beautifully marked by faith, family, and service.
Pap was a man of steady hands and an even steadier heart. He dedicated many years of service to the Tennessee Valley Authority in Gallatin and was a longtime member of LaGuardo Baptist Church. In his free time, he enjoyed carpentry, woodworking, and gardening. Pap could build or fix almost anything and took pride in caring for his garden and his family. He will be remembered for his hard work, quiet strength, and the joy he brought to those around him.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jean Stockton, and his children, Tim (Tonyia) Stockton, Cindy (Rick) Hardin, and Chris (Holly) Stockton, each carrying forward his values and love.
Pap was a proud grandfather to Megan (Scott) Goodall, Kevin (Melissa) Stockton, Jessie (Sam) Greene, Chelsea (Chris) Hensley, Lynn (Jake) Davis, Daniel Watson, Evan Watson, Ashley Taylor, Braden (Abby) Taylor and a delighted great-grandfather to Nolan, Jack, Asha, Jo, Dottie, Wesley, Oliver, Lily, Haley, Brinley, and Dalton.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Christopher Ryan Stockton, whose memory he carried close to his heart, as well as his parents, Joe and Mary Lucy.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Partlow Funeral Chapel in Lebanon. Visitation will continue on Saturday, December 20th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at LaGuardo Baptist Church, followed immediately by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the LaGuardo Cemetery. Bro. Jonathan Jennings will officiate the services.
Family members will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include John Gravely, Sam Gravely, Ben Gravely, Richard Beadle, and the TVA brothers. The family extends a special thank you to caregiver Carol Pendleton for her compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to LaGuardo Baptist Church, 8585 Highway 109 N, Lebanon, Tn 37087 in honor of Conway’s lifelong faith and service.
