OBITUARY: Billy Odell Judkins


Billy Odell Judkins was born Feb. 27, 1937 at Temperance Hall, son of the late Odus Odell Judkins and Allie Mae Bennett Judkins and left the physical realm on Wednesday morning, June 26, 2024 at the age of 87 years.

He was preceded in death by his brother and best friend, Carl Eugene Judkins.

Odell has forever been affectionately known as “Tennessee” or “Pop”.

Odell is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Betty Carol Midgett Judkins; his children, Jennifer Judkins Pruitte of Alexandria, Mark Judkins of Lebanon; Kristina Judkins Haggard of Lexington, KY. “Pop” also had 3 grandchildren, Leslie Pruitte, Layne Haggard and Karoline Haggard; 4 great-grandchildren, Loki, Bane, Sebastian and Emery; his brother, Shirley Judkins of Lebanon and sister, Elizabeth Judkins Johnson of Smithville; a brother-in-law, Steve Midgett along with many beloved aunts, uncles and friends; not to mention his trusty sidekick, Ava Irene.

Odell started his career in the National Guard and then became employed at the Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis for 33 years. Upon retirement, he moved to Watertown where he began his true passion in life . . . breeding and caring for animals. Odell bred Tennessee Walking Horses, bird dogs as well as beagle hounds. He was quite the enthusiast with his beagle hounds, he was awarded a top honor of 2nd in the World Rabbit Hunt and is a lifetime member of the Rabbit Hunter’s Hall of Fame, not to mention numerous accolades of achievement with his beagle hounds.

Odell was a friend to all and never met a stranger. He was one of the kindest, funniest men one would have the pleasure to meet.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Hunter Funeral Home with Kent Cripps officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 1 p.m. till service time. Interment will be at Jones Hill Cemetery.
