Billie “Mum” Toney Kirkus Watson, of Lebanon, TN went to be with our Savior on October 11, 2024.

Billie was born in Mississippi on January 22, 1935, to Maylene Nabors Toney.

She lived a very full and faithful life while always putting Christ first and center. She met and married her first husband Joe Kirkus at their beloved Trevecca Nazarene University in 1952. Ever the caregiver, Billie raised four children; DeWayne, Eddie (Lisa), Darrin (Susie) and Cherie (Tim) while running a successful business and expertly nursing an ailing husband for many years until he passed in 1983.

In 1988 Billie married her friend, Pastor Luther Watson, gaining four more children; Larry (Linda), Claude (Janet), Rick (Diane) and Joy. Billie mentored many and loved the congregation as a pastor’s wife. She was unmatched in her administrative skills. Luther passed in 2009.

Billie loved the Smoky Mountains, cruises, traveling, and going on as many work and witness trips as she could. Mum adored her grandchildren; January, Brandon, Samantha, Christopher, Joe, Noah, Toney-Paite, Skylar, Grantland, Aisley, Dakota, Kimberly, Melinda, Holly, Lisa, Bethany, Bernita, John, Joshua Logan and Lucas as well as her great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Billie lived a joyful life but also faced difficult challenges and trials. She lost a parent, spouses, children, grandchildren and friends. During these times she would always come back to one of her favorite portions of scripture, Philippians 4:11-12. May we follow in her footsteps by seeking contentment in Christ alone.
