It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Betty Jean Rice, age 78, on February 16, 2025. Betty was born on January 2, 1947, to Vivion and Mary Emma Rice (both deceased), and grew up surrounded by the love of her family, including her brother Buzz, who survives her, and his wife Elaine. Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Perry James, who also holds a special place in her memory.
Betty’s life was one of dedication, warmth, and generosity. She spent over 30 years as a beloved flight attendant for United Airlines, a role she cherished for the opportunity to meet and care for so many people across the world. Those who knew Betty remember her for her vibrant personality, her sharp sense of humor, and her deep love for family and friends.
She is survived by her two sons, Brian Ek (married to Paula) and Chris Ek (married to Lindsay), and her cherished grandchildren: Madison and Mia, daughters of Brian and Paula, and Samantha, daughter of Chris and Lindsay. Betty’s family was everything to her, and she took great pride in watching her grandchildren grow.
Betty was also blessed with a wide circle of friends, known as the Juliettes, many of whom she had known since childhood. She valued these relationships deeply and formed lasting bonds with those who shared in her joys and sorrows.
A visitation and service will be held to honor Betty’s life at Bond Memorial Chapel on February 22, 2025. Visitation will be from 10-1 with service immediately following.
She will be missed dearly by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness, love, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
Rest in peace, Betty. You were truly loved.
