OBITUARY: Bettie Bell Rountree McGuffey

Bettie-Bell-Rountree-McGuffey

Bettie Bell Rountree McGuffey was born October 24, 1943, in Florence, Alabama to Thomas Leslie Rountree and Lois Pruitt Rountree. She passed away on September 26, 2024.

Bettie lived her early life in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and graduated from Sheffield Alabama high school. Upon moving to Tennessee, she and her family settled in southeast Nashville where she developed many wonderful relationships in Edge-O-Lake and Priest Lake Park subdivisions. She greatly cherished those friendships.

She worked many years as an executive assistant for the president of Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee. She was a member of Hermitage Hills Baptist Church. She loved her children so much and was over the moon for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was such a helper and volunteered for countless events.

Her favorite vacations were to Walt Disney World, The Smoky Mountains, and various beaches. She enjoyed so many of those vacations. Her favorite phrases which she stated most every day were “good, good, good !!!” and “the funnest kind of fun!!!.” She stressed the most important words in family birthday cards by underlining the most important words with one, two, three or four lines. This started a competition among the grand kids to see who got the most lines to determine who was Gran’s favorite!!!

Special love and thanks goes out to the several girls clubs she was in, ”The Golden Girls,” “The Birthday Girls,” “The Hermitage Hills Baptist Friends,” and her “Goodwill Friends.” The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at Maristone of Providence.

Bettie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age and in detailed notes she left behind she quoted “this life is just a passageway to eternal life with The Lord” and “I look forward to us all being together again for Eternity.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Leslie Rountree and Lois Pruitt Rountree, a son, Bradley Stephen McGuffey, a daughter, Melanie Ann McGuffey Spalin, and a sister, Judith Terry.

She is survived by:
Son – Henry (Elaine) McGuffey
