Police have arrested an 18-year-old man accused of vandalizing multiple political signs in Mt. Juliet.
According to police, officers began investigating the incident around 9 a.m. Monday at the corner of Lebanon Road and North Mt. Juliet Road. During the investigation, officers reviewed surveillance footage that allegedly showed the suspect vandalizing multiple signs around 3 a.m. before leaving the area in a vehicle.
Investigators were able to quickly identify a suspect after a license plate reader captured the vehicle traveling through the area. Officers and a detective later responded to the suspect’s residence.
Police said the suspect admitted to damaging the signs during the encounter.
As a result of the investigation, 18-year-old Lucas Reiter of Mt. Juliet was arrested and booked into the Wilson County Jail on a charge of felony vandalism.
The Mt. Juliet Police Department reminded residents that political signs are protected property and that intentionally damaging or destroying them is a criminal offense.
