Theft-related crimes continue to fall in Mt. Juliet, with city leaders reporting significant declines across several categories during the first half of 2026.
According to the Mt. Juliet Police Department, overall theft offenses dropped from 206 reported cases in the first half of 2024 to 109 during the same period in 2026, a decrease of 47 percent.
Shoplifting incidents fell from 124 cases to 63, while vehicle burglaries dropped from 21 reports to just six, representing a 71 percent decrease over the two-year period.
Police also highlighted the city’s long-term progress in reducing vehicle break-ins. In 2008, Mt. Juliet recorded 130 vehicle burglaries. Through the first six months of 2026, only six have been reported. If that trend continues, the city would finish the year with approximately 12 vehicle burglaries, a 91 percent reduction from 2008 despite the city’s population nearly doubling during that time.
The department credited the decline to proactive policing, high officer visibility, strong partnerships with the community, and the use of technology such as license plate readers to identify stolen vehicles, wanted suspects, and vehicles connected to crimes.
Mt. Juliet police said many of the offenders they encounter come from outside the city and emphasized their commitment to preventing criminals from succeeding in the community.
Police leaders thanked residents and city officials for their continued support, saying community involvement and investment in public safety have played an important role in the city’s crime reduction efforts.
