As Mt. Juliet enters the new year, police officials are highlighting continued declines across several crime categories, pointing to long-term trends showing fewer serious offenses even as the city’s population continues to grow.

Vehicle theft continued to move in a positive direction in 2025, dropping 15 percent compared to 2024 and standing 56 percent lower than in 2017. Police noted the reduction is especially significant given that Mt. Juliet’s population has grown by about 27 percent since 2017. The department credited engaged residents, proactive and community-focused policing, and efforts to make it more difficult for criminals from outside the area to commit crimes or evade capture.

Robbery remained rare in Mt. Juliet throughout 2025. Police reported a single robbery during the year, compared to three in 2024 and 11 in 2017. Officials emphasized that while even one robbery is too many, the overall trend shows these violent thefts have become increasingly uncommon in the city.

Car burglaries also continued a long-term decline. In 2008, when Mt. Juliet’s population was about 21,700, police recorded 130 car burglaries. In 2025, with more than 44,000 residents, that number fell to 36. That represents a 72 percent decrease since 2008 and a 10 percent drop from 2024. Police noted the reduction comes despite operating with fewer officers per capita than both state and national averages.

The department cited proactive policing strategies and the use of technology, including the MJGuardianShield license plate reader and camera network introduced in 2020, as key factors in faster response times and quicker investigations. Police also said the approach has reduced the need to add additional officers, resulting in cost savings for the city.

Police continue to encourage residents to lock vehicles, remove valuables and firearms, and report suspicious activity, saying community involvement remains a critical part of keeping Mt. Juliet among the safest cities in Tennessee.
