The largest infrastructure project in Lebanon’s history reached a milestone last week. The Bartons Creek Interceptor Sewer Project began construction underneath I-40, opening South Hartmann Drive for an expected economic development boom in the coming years.
The Lebanon City Council approved approximately 22,740 linear feet of a new pipeline, which is 4.3 miles, as part of the $25 million infrastructure project. Developers and American Rescue Funds primarily paid for the project while the City of Lebanon Utility Department contributed $2.5 million—10% of the total cost.
This project started in 2022 and is now nearing completion. For three years, there have been large green pipes along South Hartmann Drive. Now, the citizens of Lebanon will begin to see the fruits of that work and investment—a thriving entry into Lebanon that will provide shopping and dining opportunities for everyone.
The South Hartmann Drive interchange at Interstate 40 has become a gateway into Lebanon, bringing new residential and commercial developments. Some announced projects include In-N-Out Burger, Sam’s Club, Target, The Goat, Jonathan’s, and new hotels. Sarah Haston, Lebanon’s Economic Development Director, expects more future restaurant and retail developments.
