The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of inconsistencies within the Information Technology Department of Wilson County Government, prompting a months-long investigation into former IT Director Kenneth Hammonds Jr.
The investigation culminated in the execution of a search warrant at Hammonds’ residence, conducted by detectives with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division with assistance from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. During the search, investigators recovered multiple stolen computers and electronic devices—several of which were actively being used at the time of the search warrant.
Further investigation revealed that Hammonds is believed to have created a private company through which he billed Wilson County Government for unauthorized services. Following the findings presented to the Wilson County Grand Jury, a two-count indictment was issued for the arrest of Kenneth Hammonds Jr. on the charges of Theft over $60,000 and Official Misconduct.
Hammonds was taken into custody and received a $15,000 bond.
