April 21, 2025 – A Mt. Juliet Police patrol vehicle was struck this evening while officers were assisting with a traffic stop on I-40 West near the 225 mile marker. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident.

The collision occurred while two patrol vehicles were safely positioned off the roadway on the right shoulder with emergency lights fully activated. According to officials, a motorist entering I-40 West from the Mt. Juliet Road on-ramp drove along the shoulder for nearly a quarter mile, ignoring rumble strips and uneven pavement before crashing into the rear right side of one of the unoccupied patrol cars.

The driver, who was not injured, told authorities he had been distracted while reading a prescription. He was cited by the Tennessee Highway Patrol for failure to exercise due care and driving without insurance.

The Mt. Juliet Police Department emphasized the importance of staying alert behind the wheel, particularly near emergency scenes.
