On Saturday afternoon, officers responded to a domestic situation on West Adams Street. When they arrived, they learned the incident was a continuation of a dispute from the night before, during which – one of the residents reportedly pointed a shotgun at another person in the home.
While investigating, the suspect fled to his bedroom and locked himself inside before officers could take him into custody.
Officers made several attempts to talk him out peacefully.
Because the suspect stated he had several guns in his bedroom, additional resources from our SWAT team were requested because of the level of potential danger.
After using tools – like our robot, to try to open the barricaded door and several attempts by our negotiation team to have the suspect surrender, the SWAT team entered the room and safely took him into custody without incident.
The suspect, 60-year-old Jaye Carter of Lebanon, was transported to a local hospital due to his level of intoxication before being booked into the Wilson County Jail.
He was charged with aggravated assault.
